Roles still available after West Side Story Auditions West Side Story upheld its reputation as one of the most physically and vocally demanding musicals in history when Phoenix Theatre Arts failed to fill all roles from the show at the first day of auditions. Despite easily enough performers to cast the production twice over turning up to audition, at the end of the day the two main female roles of Maria and Anita were still up for grabs. The production company are also looking for a further 3 boys and 3 girls to take ensemble roles in the warring gangs...

Charity concert at Rhodes raises over £1700

Rhodes assisted St Clare Hospice to raise over £1700 at a charity concert held at the venue recently. The concert was the brainchild of local hospice fundraiser James Barber and was named St Clare Stars. Local groups including Phoenix Theatre School, Dance Scene and Jacqui Ison Theatre Arts took part in the concert and provided an evening of entertainment to a packed auditorium of friends and family. Our picture shows Artistic Producer Phil Dale, who helped to organize and hosted the event with a certificate of thanks from the Hospice.

The 24 Acts appearing in the Grand Final of the Rhodes Talent Search 2014 have been announced and tickets are selling fast for the highly anticiapted event. Following three intensive days of auditions, Head Judge and West End performer Kate Coysten had the unenviable task of choosing those acts that would make it through to the final stage. With a range of acts including singers, musicians and dancers (both groups and soloists) the final promises to be a fantastic night of entertainment. The museum has a small, but interesting, collection of costume. A few of the highlights are on display in the first floor museum galleries. The remainder of the collection is held in our off-site store, and is currently being catalogued, photographed and re-boxed by one of our dedicated volunteers – Thank you Anne! The photograph below shows a detail of a bodice from the 1890s. It is made of a stiff black brocaded material and the ¾ length sleeves are decorated with elegant jet or black glass beads.
