A Local football team. One of our newest museum donations is this fantastic postcard showing a local football team, a detail of which is shown to the left . Do you know who any of these footballers are? This postcard was taken by Bishop’s Stortford photographer William Sullivan, who was active in the early 20th century. The museum has quite a few postcards by Mr Sullivan and this has allowed us to build up a brilliant visual picture of the area during the period he was active. Behind the scenes today, Museum Assistant Sophie has been checking the environment of the galleries here at the museum. What is termed “environmental monitoring” (for obvious reasons!) is all part of the museum’s preventive conservation plan, i.e. how we can conserve our amazing collections through preventing or limiting those things that can cause them harm. The environment that we keep objects in is really important, as most objects are affected by the environment. One of our biggest and exciting up-and-coming projects at the museum is our WW1 Police Records project ‘On the beat: Stories from 1914-1918’. We’ve been discussing it on Twitter for a while, but we wanted to let you to know a little more about what is going on, and what is coming up! On the 16 January our Curator, Sarah, gave a brilliant free lecture about the project along with Nick Connell from Hertfordshire Archive and Local Studies (HALS).
