4th November 2016
A rare opportunity to meet two of the most successful Tottenham Managers in recent times.
In 1976 Keith Burkinshaw took over an under-achieving Spurs team and after taking them down to the old second division in his first season, he brought them straight back-up. Returning to the top flight Keith Burkinshaw shocked world football by bringing World Cup Winners Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa to the club in the Summer of 78.
Keith then led Tottenham to two successive FA Cup final victories and the 1984 UEFA cup triumph over Anderlecht. Keith then controversially left the club as the new board heralded a commercial era to British Football, at the time Keith was famously quoted as saying “There used to be a football club over there”.
Peter Shreeves holds a unique record of managing the team twice. Shreeves started coaching the youth team in 1974 a journey which took him to Reserve team manager, assistant manager and when Burkinshaw resigned in 1984 Shreeves was promoted to First team Manager. In his first season in charge Spurs finished the season in 3rd place, a position the club have only equalled once and never beaten. He held the post held until 1986, but returned to manage the team in 1991 taking over from Terry Venables. Not many men know the club from inside out more than Peter Shreeves.
