1st August 2017 - 29th August 2017
1-29th August 2017
The paintings on the display originated from an artist’s visit to New Zealand in 1987 and 1993.
He painted his impressions of the Karamea river that travels down from the hills and descends in to the bush covered Karamea Gorge and then winds its way between the steep hill sides over rocks and boulders to the mouth of the river and the beach; also Waiheki Island which feels that it is hundreds of miles from the hustle and bustle of city life but it is just a short boat trip from Auckland.
He was fortunate to meet somebody who frequently fished out on the Cavalli Islands where he managed to transfer from the nature to the canvas the weathered cliffs on the eastern side of the island that are pounded by the Pacific Ocean waves looking from the old Maori fort at the southern end of Motukawanui Island.
You will be able to encounter these and many other wonders of New Zealand until the end of the August!
