11th July 2016 - 28th July 2016
Bishop’s Stortford Art Society is now in its 81st year since its foundation in 1935. Last year we celebrated our 80th anniversary with an exhibition at the Rhodes Gallery and we were honoured to have Caroline Spurrier the great granddaughter of one of our most prominent founder members Francis Maynard the countess of Warwick to open the exhibition.
Caroline who lived at Easton Lodge, Great Easton now lives at Crows Hall in Debenham Suffolk which is a 16th century Manor House with a moat and bridge and a 16th century barn. Caroline has invited the Art Society to have a day’s painting there this year which we are all looking forward to.
Our exhibition this year at the Gallery will be the 5th since the Rhodes Arts Complex reopened its doors after a massive refurbishment ten years ago. We enjoy exhibiting here as the gallery is unique in that it is able to offer us an outstanding exhibition area where we can present our paintings in a superb setting.
Our exhibition this year runs from the 11th July until the 28th July, and we expect to have about 100 paintings on display. Please come and see our exhibition as we are renowned for having a high standard of work on show and no doubt you may meet some of our artists in situ who will guide you round the exhibition. On display will be paintings from Landscapes to Abstracts using all mediums.
If you are interested in joining our friendly art society we meet every fortnight at Thorn Grove primary school, where we have demonstrations by professional artists, life drawing and working evenings.
During the summer months we meet at various locations where we paint outside. Details can be found on our web-site http://www.bsartsociety.co.uk/ or you can also find us on Facebook, Bishop’s Stortford Art Society.
