Bishop’s Stortford Musical Theatre Juniors are back!
The Jazz Age lives on in this light romantic spoof of 1920’s musical comedy. With its catchy tunes, period dances (including the Charleston) and winning sense of humour, it is a sparkling, tongue-in-cheek 1920’s romp. Written in the fifties as “a new musical of the twenties,” this is still considered the most successful, and witty of the send-up musicals, with the style of earlier, lighter-hearted and more disarming days.
The setting is the French Riviera. Polly, an English heiress attending Mme Dubonnet’s Finishing School, falls in love with Tony, a delivery boy. Recalling her father’s warning to beware fortune seekers, she poses as a secretary, unaware Tony is in fact the missing son of the wealthy Lord Brockhurst. Things get complicated with the unexpected arrival of Polly’s father and Lord and Lady Brockhurst – but not to worry, a happy ending is in store for all!
Combine this flapperish, fun, young and frothy show with the talents of BSMTC Juniors and you have a winning combination for a great night of musical theatre for all the family.
