A brand new cinema experience is set to hit Bishop’s Stortford this month with the launch of the highly anticipated thescreen Stortford here at Rhodes Arts Complex.
thescreen Stortford, an independent cinema at Rhodes Arts Complex, launches its first programme on Sunday 14 May. Following a six figure investment at the venue which is set to see a complete redevelopment of the auditorium including a new sound system, flooring and seating, phase one has reached its completion which has allowed for the early launch of the cinema. The phased project began in April with the redevelopment of the balcony and installation of the 4K digital cinema projection system and surround sound system.
The flooring and main seating area are on course to be completed in August. This has not stopped the team putting together an initial cinematic programme for May, June and July which sees the venue screening more titles than any other local independent cinema in the area.
thescreen will present a total of 61 screenings in just nine weeks with a plethora of different types of titles to suit all tastes and in turn complement the already diverse theatrical programme.
Operations Director Paula Holland, who has managed the project from planning through to implementation alongside her team commented “It is our ambition to provide a contemporary cinema venue for the community that provides our customers with a great experience from beginning to end. Cinema in style is our mission”.
The programme at thescreen will include documentary and international films alongside more well-known titles and the best in live theatre screenings from the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and Royal Shakespeare Company. The first showing at thescreen will be the Disney hit Beauty and the Beast on Sunday 14 May after a gala launch on Friday 12 May.
Tickets are on sale now for all films incorporating a “Kids for a Quid” pricing plan for all children’s films including The Lego Batman Movie and Smurfs: The Lost Village.
